An increase of the speed limit to 45 miles per hour is warranted along Ka iminani Drive between Lau'i Street and the makai boundary of the Kona Palisades Subdivision. Bud Moen to Council Member Tyler Mr. Tyler received the subject letter requesting a change in the speed limit on the lower portion of Ka'iminani Drive. At that time I burdened you with a suggestion and you asked me to contact you again at your office. My question is, why do we have to have a 35 mph speed limit on the road below the Palisades to the Queen Highway? When driving through the residential area, 35 mph is reasonable and safe, but, when leaving the residential area and driving through the ag area, you have to "ride" your breaks in order to drive that slow. My suggestion is to increase the speed limit on that portion of the roadway that goes through the ag area to 45 mph like was done on "na Lani Street. Thank you for your consideration. Without separation, it is "The Beautiful Ka'imi". Tradition is to write as one word. The exception is when there is a modifier to whole name such as "Waena" in Waiakea Waena. Here Waena means central. The name of the place, Waiakea, is two words written as one. The modifier Waena is separate. It is not part of the name. We have been told it means "Searcher of Beauty. " At Council we are increasing a speed limit in the area and I asked staff to research the background of the naming of the drive. We discovered that the form of the word changed over time to Ka'iminani. I would like to ask you for clarification in this instance. Does the meaning of the word change if we use Ka'iminani instead of the original Ka'imi Mani? Because this item comes up for review on Wednesday, I would like your clarification of this matter at your earliest convenience. Word can be left for me at my office in Kona at 326-5684.
