WHEREAS,Keli`ipio-Kuamo`o Foundation, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to practice,promote, and perpetuate the traditional lifestyles of the Keli`ipio and Kuamo`o ancestral lines through genealogy, education, and stewardship of'aim; and WHEREAS, Keli`ipio-Kuamo`o Foundation, Inc., is requesting funds for equipment rentals, a brush cutter, contracted cultural programming and site support services, cultural educational materials,and public outreach,which will serve a public purpose by benefiting, improving, or promoting the interests of culture and the arts, educational concerns, and the public health and welfare of the people and the environment; now,therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that, in accordance with section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawai`i County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 are hereby transferred to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant to Keli`ipio-Kuamo`o Foundation, Inc.,.for the expenses and purposes identified in"Exhibit A,"a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference, in the following amount as set forth below: FUND: General • AMOUNT OF APPROPRIATION: $2,500 OUT AND FROM: 1010-11-10191 Clerk-Council SVC—Contingency Relief $2,500 CREDITED TO: 1010-21-25139 Department of Liquor Control $2,500 Public Programs 530115'Misc. The Kipaepae will serve as a traditional blessing and community celebration honoring the successful preservation of Honolulu Landing. The ceremony will include a traditional kipaepae(to set the foundation) and a day of speeches by officials who championed the County of Hawaii Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Commission (PONC) purchase of Honolulu Landing, securing this beloved wahi kOpuna in perpetuity.Through pule, oli, ho'okupu, hula, and educational and cultural presentations, descendants, community members, cultural practitioners, and public leaders will gather to express gratitude, honor our kOpuna, and recognize the many individuals and organizations whose efforts made this achievement possible. The event will also support ongoing community engagement focused on sharing the history of Honolulu Landing and promoting traditional Hawaiian values of malama'aina, stewardship, and sustainable living practices within this treasured ahupua'a. *41. 5O1(c)(3) Mission Statement To practice, promote, and perpetuate the traditional lifestyles of the Keli'ipio and Kuamo'o ancestral lines through genealogy, education, and stewardship of'aina *42. The Keli'ipio-Kuamo'o Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization rooted in the lineal descendants and'ohana of Mary Mele Kau'i Moke Kuamo'o Keli'ipio and Isaac Keli'ipio, Sr. Its connection to this project is direct and ancestral. Honolulu Landing is a wahi kOpuna where Mary Keli'ipio was born and raised, and it remains a place of deep familial and cultural significance to the Foundation. The Foundation was formally incorporated in 2014 and emerged from longstanding'ohana efforts centered on genealogy, cultural practice, and stewardship. It continues this work today through the preservation, interpretation, and protection of wahi kOpuna, including Honolulu Landing, ensuring these places and their histories are cared for and shared for future generations. *43. The Keli'ipio-Kuamo'o Foundation, Inc., will also track the number of attendees who engage with educational resources by scanning the Foundation's QR code and visiting its website to learn more about the history, cultural significance, and preservation of Honolulu Landing.
