TESTIMONY IN SUPPORT OF
RESOLUTION NO. 622 26
August 5, 2026 County Council Meeting
On behalf of Friends of First Responders, I would like to thank Council
Member Ashley Kierkiewicz for introducing this Resolution and the entire
County Council for your ongoing support of our organization. Your support
of our work to provide programs and resources for our first responders and
their families demonstrates your recognition of the valuable services they
provide to our community and your commitment to their well-being.
We support this resolution that would provide financial support for our
second annual First Responders' Kids’ Camp. This Camp is made possible
through partnership with the YMCA that has the facilities and staffing
needed. We also partner with our Community Police, Fire Department and
other first responder agencies to provide fun and educational sessions for
the Camp attendees.
Children learn alongside other children of first responders, helping
normalize their experiences and making them feel supported. Books and
journals are sent home to help children and parents build understanding and
encourage conversations about topics that matter to them.
We also work with HPD’s Public Safety Counselor and members of the
faith community to provide mental, emotional and spiritual support to all the
children attending.
For these reasons – we encourage our County Council to approve this
resolution that will help to strengthen our first responder families.
