Subject:Support reso 603-26 Coconut rhinoceros beetle
Aloha council members,
I strongly support the common sense advocacy contained in Res. 603-26 urging the Department of Agriculture and
Biosecurity to implement and enforce plant quarantine interim rule 26-1 to regulate the transportation of coconut
rhinoceros beetle.
Having been involved in the landscape and landscape nursery business in Kona for almost 40 years, it’s clear that
coconut rhinoceros beetle poses an existential threat to the landscape industry, homeowners, and local subsistence by
the widespread decimation of, in particular but not limited to, coconut palms attacked and killed by this pest.
The state must coordinate with our county to help insure that host material isn’t moved and spread, especially at night,
along with other measures to stop commercial entities — both permitted and un-permitted — from knowingly and
unknowingly spreading CRB.
Mahalo for voting in support of reso 603-26.
Best regards,
Janice Palma-Glennie
