WHEREAS,the Lions Club of Kona Community Foundation, Inc., (LCKCFI) is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization whose mission is to develop and provide community service projects and activities that meet the needs of the community; and WHEREAS,the Department of Parks and Recreation, Elderly Activities Division, is working in partnership with LCKCFI to host its 40th Annual Hawai`i Kupuna Hula Festival, which will be held at the Outrigger Kona Resort and Spa; and WHEREAS, LCKCFI is requesting funds for expenses such as program printing and videographer fees, which will serve a public purpose by benefiting, improving, or promoting the interests of culture and the arts;now,therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that, in accordance with section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawai`i County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 are hereby transferred to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to the Lions Club of Kona Community Foundation, Inc., for the expenses and purposes identified in"Exhibit A," a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference, in the following amount as set forth below: FUND: General AMOUNT'OF APPROPRIATION: $5,400 OUT AND FROM: 1010-11-10191 Clerk-Council SVC—Contingency Relief $5,400 CREDITED TO: 1010-51-50302 Department of Parks and Recreation $5,400 P&R Admin OCE 530115 Misc. The annual KupOna Hula Festival is a culturally significant event that brings together kupuna (elders)from across Hawai'i Island and beyond to showcase their hula artistry. This multi-day festival at the Kona Outrigger Resort celebrates and perpetuates Hawaiian traditions, language, and values through hula dance. Beyond performance, the festival fosters kOpuna's well-being by providing a supportive space for social connection, physical activity, and cultural expression. It also serves as an educational platform for the community and visitors, strengthening intergenerational ties and deepening appreciation for Hawaiian heritage. The festival includes live music by local musicians, hula competitions judged by cultural experts, traditional ceremonies, and community engagement activities. Funding will support the festival to ensure a safe, accessible, and professionally produced event that honors kupuna and enriches Hawai'i's cultural landscape. *51. 501(c)(3) Mission Statement To develop and provide community service projects and activities that meet the needs of the community. *52. The Lions Club of Kona Community Foundation, Inc., has volunteered to help with the KupOna Hula Festival for many years. Lion Members have served as volunteers at the event and helped with financial organization and expenses before, during, and after the event itself. *53.
