Subject:Support for Resolution 665-26
To O?ice of the County Clerk:
I support Resolution 665-26 providing grant funding to PATH to support the HIBIKE bikeshare. The HIBIKE Project
will promote a transportation option for Hawai‘i Island residents and visitors to utilize, encourage a healthy and
fun way to get around town, and support the development of appropriate infrastructure for biking, bicycle safely
and bicycle ridership on Hawai‘i Island.
· HIBIKE helps reduce traffic congestion and improve automobile and transit times.
· HIBIKE expands transportation options, increasing walking, bicycling, and enabling more people to use
transit.
· HIBIKE fills gaps in the Hele-On transit system acting as a “first/last mile” option.
· HIBIKE seamlessly integrates with the Hele-On Bus.
· HIBIKE creates an intergenerational bicycling culture in Kailua-Kona and Hilo that normalizes the bicycle
for transportation and recreation, stimulates public support for expanding bicycle infrastructure. Under the
membership options designed with Hawai’i County residents in mind, the more you use the system the
greater the value of the membership fee, and the farther your transportation dollars invested in HIBIKE
membership goes.
As a member of the Board of PATH and the Kona community, I have seen firsthand what a benefit the HIBIKE program
is for Hawai‘i Island. Please vote to continue funding this important asset for our community.

I support Resolu?on 665-26, which provides grant funding to PATH to support the HIBIKE bikeshare program. HIBIKE will
offer a convenient transporta?on op?on for Hawai‘i Island residents and visitors, promote a healthy and enjoyable way
to get around town, and encourage investment in bicycle infrastructure, safety, and ridership across Hawai‘i Island.
Specifically, HIBIKE will:
· Help reduce traffic conges?on and improve travel ?mes for drivers and transit users.
· Expand transporta?on op?ons by encouraging walking, bicycling, and greater use of public transit.
· Fill gaps in the Hele-On transit system by serving as a first-mile/last-mile connec?on.
· Integrate seamlessly with Hele-On Bus service.
· Build an intergenera?onal bicycling culture in Kailua-Kona and Hilo, normalizing bicycles for both transporta?on and
recrea?on and building public support for expanded bike infrastructure.
With membership op?ons designed for Hawai‘i County residents, the more people ride, the greater the value of their
membership—and the farther their transporta?on dollars go.

Subject:Testimony in Support of Resolution 665-26: Grant Funding for HIBIKE Bikeshare
Program
Aloha,
I am writing in support of Resolution 665-26 providing grant funding to PATH to support the HIBIKE
bikeshare.
The HIBIKE Project will promote a transportation option for Hawai‘i Island residents and visitors to utilize,
encourage a healthy and fun way to get around town, and support the development of appropriate
infrastructure for biking, bicycle safely and bicycle ridership on Hawai‘i Island.
Key benefits to the County government, the people of the Big Island, and visitors include the following:
HIBIKE helps reduce traffic congestion and improves automobile and transit times.
BIKE expands transportation options, increasing walking, bicycling, and enabling more people to
use transit.
HIBIKE fills gaps in the Hele-On transit system acting as a “first/last mile” option.
HIBIKE seamlessly integrates with the Hele-On Bus system.
HIBIKE creates an intergenerational bicycling culture in Kailua-Kona and Hilo that normalizes the
bicycle for transportation and recreation, and stimulates public support for expanding bicycle
infrastructure.
Under the HIBIKE membership options designed with Hawai’i County residents in mind, the more
you use the system the greater the value of the membership fee, and the farther your
transportation dollars invested in HIBIKE membership goes.
I strongly recommend that that the County Council approve this grant to PATH.
Respectfully,
Jon D. Lindborg
