Hamakua Health Center, Inc.
2026 Pa’auilo Christmas Program
Aloha,
I am providing written testimony in support of Resolution No. 642-26, having the
Hamakua Health Center, Inc. host the 2026 Pa’auilo Christmas Program this
coming December.
The Pa’auilo Community has been a shining example of ohana and unity on
the northern end of the Hamakua Coast. Countless families have lived and
thrived for generations here. As the years have gone by, the social dynamic has
changed due to economic and technological growth and progress. Many families
have had to leave the lands that they have called home for generations, and the
youth have been forced to move away, searching for a life that is unattainable in
this beautiful and quiet place.
It is rare for this community to have a reason to all come together in
fellowship and love. It is not so often that the younger generations that have
been spread near and far to return to the place of their youth. To reunite with
old friends, neighbors, classmates, teammates, and distant family members.
This event, the Pa’auilo Christmas Program, provides that reason for the
Pa’auilo Community. This brings together the true living history of this special
place. Seeing the tender embraces, and the genuine smiles of recognition and
delight on the faces of these wonderful people, makes this event so special, and
necessary for our spirits.
