WHEREAS,the Lions Club of Kona Community Foundation, Inc. The annual Kupuna Hula Festival is a culturally significant event that brings together kOpuna (elders) from across Hawai'i Island and beyond to showcase their hula artistry.This multi-day festival at the Kona Outrigger Resort celebrates and perpetuates Hawaiian traditions, language, and values through hula dance. Beyond performance, the festival fosters kupuna's well-being by providing a supportive space for social connection, physical activity, and cultural expression. It also serves as an educational platform for the community and visitors, strengthening intergenerational ties and deepening appreciation for Hawaiian heritage. The festival includes live music by local musicians, hula competitions judged by cultural experts,traditional ceremonies, and community engagement activities. Funding will support the festival to ensure a safe, accessible, and professionally produced event that honors kOpuna and enriches Hawai'i's cultural landscape. *51. 5O1(c)(3) Mission Statement To develop and provide community service projects and activities that meet the needs of the community. *52. The Lions Club of Kona Community Foundation, Inc., has volunteered to help with the KOpuna Hula Festival for many years. Lion Members have served as volunteers at the event and helped with financial organization and expenses before, during, and after the event itself. *53.
