My wife and I are from Oregon and we visit Hilo for 28 days helping hope everyday that we could. I
personally repaired a handrail to one of the residents shelter which was approximately 12x12 it's not
much to live in but it's something and they were very appreciated. Although these are for seniors with lots
of problems throughout was falling over and I had to reach support it digging new holes to hold up new
4x4s was extremely challenging trying to dig into lava rock. I noticed there was others that needed to be
done and not only that that some of yours had extensive rot the ground out there is just saturated in
water and has nowhere to go. It is very difficult for them to find volunteer help with the knowledge to
make the proper repairs. Hope a very transparent up front and let me know they had nothing in their
budget to make repairs so I donated all of the supplies myself. Ongoing work is always needed unless
something is done these units will continue to degrade and become inhabitable in which leaving these
seniors on the street once again they have nothing. It was interesting the one particular lady that I was
repairing her handrail she had very little her common was less is more she just wanted to stay to the very
basics. These are real seniors that need real help. There are no different from your me. They just need
help thank you
