I live in Puna, where we have a diverse population of Local People, Native Hawaiians, Retirees, and Sustainable Permaculture farms. All drawn here because the risk of living in lava zones 1 & 2 keeps the price of land low. For many this is the last refuge. Bill 147 will end that, and destabilize the community, by raising everybody's property tax. I recently hosted a young Hawaiian couple from Oahu at my Airbnb, who were here looking for a house, because their family home in Honolulu was no longer sustainable because of the extreme property tax. 7 bedrooms, 3 generations living under one roof, and they could barely make the tax. We keep hearing the Bill 147 will bring us into "compliance" with the law made in Honolulu by people who have never been here. Permaculture Farms, and Native Hawaiian Family land that can show no receipts, and the last refuge of the Local People are now under siege. Justifying all the fines and taxes in order to fund more regulations, more beaurocracy, more full time, benefited enforcers to police us, makes everybody's eyes roll in exasperation. Is this really the path we want to go down? Is "Taxing Them Off The Land" really the legacy we want to leave the next generation? Thank you for your attention, Paul Crawford 1
