Subject:Testimony in OPPOSITION to Bills 186 and 187 (Applicant: Waikoloa Green LLC)
Hello,
I have lived in Waikola Village since 1989 and live on the pasture. We almost lost our house in a fire that
came right up to the property line. Evacuation was an absolute horror. My father refused to even attempt
it when we couldn’t even get onto the street because of so many cars trying to get out of the village.
This was well over a decade ago.
Since then, the village population has exploded.
We have a school packed with children now.
It is more dry than ever.
And it’s absolutely criminal to find that a second road has been recommended by our governance
officials for over 20 years.
A second road is prudent, and laughable that this is still under discussion at all.
This road SHOULD be funded by our TAXES. This is basic infrastructure and is our responsibility, not the
responsibility of a developer with contingencies on their sales. What an absolutely embarrassing
delegation of responsibility.
Our government has a duty to provide for us.
Our community has been clear and responsive and dedicated to move this forward for YEARS now.
This is literally a life or death scenario. I implore you to stop passing the buck, listen to your own
advisors, and fund this road immediately.
