Subject: bills 186 , 187
I just heard about some county bills to rezone agricultural land adjacent to waikoloa Village. While there
is a shortage of housing Here, all the new housing that has been developed the last two years has not
been affordable, except compared to things that are more expensive. Certainly not affordable for single
people or for people with a growing family. There is no benefit to having more three and four bedroom
homes that ordinary people can’t afford, that use additional resources and depend on the same wildfire
exit routes the rest of us are already going to be using. And in all discussion of development, I have never
heard people talk about how finite or infinite our water supply is. Development seems to happen without
that being a factor, yet we know it’s a factor on Oahu and other islands around the world where they run
out of the fresh water table.
Aloha
