Subject:Opposition to Bill 147
Your Bill 147 does nothing to help the generational regeneration that is rampant here and is more of an obstacle than a bridge. Locals
can’t get into the economy if we like it or not because special use permits are unachievable for almost any host who is living within their
means in a rural community. Anyone can tell how unattainable the SP are based on the fact they are so extremely rare. The way I see it
is unless a host is either exorbitantly wealthy or a resource conjuring enigma there isn’t a chance that any normal person would want
to undergo the rigorous, multi-tiered bureaucratic process that is lopsided on top of everything else.
Unless you’re in a very favorable situation and can somehow make “it” work all in all as a supplemental super demanding side gig in-
spite of it alll bill 147 is a judicial piggy back off of the seemingly irrelevant state level legal stipulations that had not come up until this
point… thanks heather kimball you really know how to build a convoluted bureaucratic rats nest with disproportionate effects on our
rural way of life! With the loss of income we now won’t be making any critical improvements to the dilapidated industry who needs a
property with cross fencing! If my aging parents keep working off the ranch jobs well into their 60s we will still be able to keep the ranch
going while I raise my babies on food stamps. I think i an m am already starting to see the disadvantageous effects of your porkbarrel
legislation and it just came into to scene. This is all overreach and will only ensure local people are being locked out of the Hamakua
Dream.
There is so much to unpack it’s legitimately the worst. Bills like 147 should be illegal its a corrosive offensive against the people. It will
only grow the rural vs urban divide which is the main problem you are cashiering out here with with reckless disregard to district 1
constituents. I don’t know why it is so cherry picked but this white elephant has got to go. It is blatantly against the interests of your
agriculture communities and is turning hospitality into a crime.
