Aloha Chair and Members of the Finance Committee,
My name is Derrick Akiu-Nakano, an active drug court participant, clean and
sober house manager, and person fighting for a better life for myself.
Homelessness and Housing fund. As an ex addict, facing homelessness, I cannot
stress how monumental the services that rely on this funding truly is. I support
BILL 192 to continue the HHF through June 30, 2029.

Going Home Hawaii has been such a blessing to me as way to provide stable
housing, healing, and the opportunity to build and find my community. In
partnership with Kumukahi Health and Wellness, we now have the first Non-
Binary, inclusive sober living house in the state, which caters to the LGBTQ
community as an always open door for people to find themselves, build integrity
and foster the ideals of fellowship and family.

that in the future these supportive services will be available for all of those who
come after me who may have also gotten lost along the way. A strong community
needs a foundational source of supportive services like housing programs, and
without them we are lost.

oversight, and continued improvement. Accountability should strengthen effective
services while preserving the coordinated network that residents, businesses, and
