Aloha, my name is Kaulana Kahaulopua-Nakamura.
When I first came to Hale Kipa, I was facing challenges that felt impossible—
homelessness, lacking all my legal documents, and carrying a heavy burden of self-doubt.
I struggled to trust others and often kept my head down, unsure if I had a place in this
world. But with the consistent support and encouragement I received here, I began taking
life one step at a time. Slowly, I rebuilt my life—securing my vital documents, gaining my
GED, and, most importantly, learning to believe in myself and my worth.
This journey has taught me that true strength doesn’t mean never struggling—it means
showing up, even when the path is hard, and trusting that growth comes through
perseverance. Today, I carry myself with confidence and hope, ready to face whatever
challenges come next.
I am also proud to share that I recently swore into the military and will be leaving for
Georgia to begin basic training. I am also proud to share that my baby has arrived in August
2026, growing my family from two to three. This next chapter is both exciting and humbling,
and it represents the power of second chances, hard work, and the incredible support I
received from Hale Kipa, Aunty Tammy, and my girlfriend. Without their guidance and
belief in me, this opportunity would not have been possible.
I hope my story can inspire others who may be facing obstacles in their own lives. No
matter how difficult the journey, with determination, support, and courage, transformation
is possible. To anyone listening today—never give up on yourself, and never underestimate
the difference that guidance, mentorship, and belief from others can make.
Mahalo nui loa for this honor, for your guidance, and for walking alongside me on this
journey. I am forever grateful.
