SUBJECT: DRAFT RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF ENGINEER TO ISSUE
PERMITS FOR THE INSTALLATION OF PRIVATELY OWNED CONVEX
MIRRORS WITHIN COUNTY RIGHT-OF-WAYS
In compliance with Chapter 2, Section 2-119 of the Hawaii County Code, forwarded for your
consideration is a draft resolution authorizing the Chief Engineer to issue permits for the installation of
convex mirrors within the County right-of-way. We would issue permits to individuals who have
exhausted all other means to improve sight distance at their private driveway.
With the increased use of convex mirrors along the State highway, individuals have been requesting
permission to install convex mirrors within County streets. This resolution will allow the Department
to respond to these requests.
Your attention and favorable consideration of this resolution bill will be sincerely appreciated.
