On November 20, the Kau'ikeauoli Hula Festival will honor the relationships between cultural practitioners and youth, bringing together Kumu Hula, Kumu'Ukulele, and Kumu Lomilomi with students from Konawaena Middle School, Konawaena High School, Ke Kula'O'Ehunuikaimalino, Kealakehe Intermediate School, Kealakehe High School, and Hawai'i Technology Academy—Kona. This celebration is rooted in the legacy of King Kamehameha III, who played an important role in expanding education throughout Hawai'i and encouraged the pursuit of knowledge in both Hawaiian and English.Through this festival, local students will have the opportunity to learn from cultural practitioners and gain knowledge and understanding rooted in the traditions of the area surrounding Keauhou, the birthplace of King Kamehameha III. Outrigger Kona Resort will support this learning by providing a location for education and cultural exchange. On November 21, E Mau Ana Ka Hula will serve as a tribute to King David Kalakaua, Hawai'i's last monarch to have traveled the world while championing Hawaiian culture, including hula and 'ukulele. In his honor, the festival will present halau (schools of hula)from Europe, Japan, Kauai, O'ahu, and Hawai'i Island, sharing their knowledge with the Kona community.A central takeaway from E Mau Ana Ka Hula is an understanding of the different schools of hula and the importance of connecting the past to the future so that our communities can gain deeper insight into Hawaiian culture and traditions, particularly in Kona. Although the participating halau are from different places, their presence will provide attendees with greater insight into the local culture of Hawai'i and the true Aloha Spirit through presentations of hula, educational knowledge, arts and crafts, and cultural practitioners willing to share their knowledge of who we are as Hawaiians, the true people of Hawai'i. *37. 501(c)(3) Mission Statement Na Wai Iwi Ola (NWIO), a multigenerational and community-based educational foundation, was founded to perpetuate Hawaiian culture and practices through hula protocol and ceremonies, the use and study of the Hawaiian language, and by embracing the stories of our kOpuna past, present, and future. *38. In 1,000 characters or less, explain how the 501(c)(3) is connected to the project. Twenty years ago, based upon the mission of Na Wai Iwi Ola, a hula festival started on the grounds of Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort in the beautiful Kahalu'u, Kona.To honor the traditions and practices of the many Kumu Hula, past, present, and future, and to perpetuate Hawaiian cultural knowledge and traditions that instill important and embracing Hawaiian values, Na Wai Iwi Ola was founded on this great idea. Na Wai Iwi Ola found it important to acknowledge the lack of cultural knowledge and traditions within our community and the need to perpetuate the appropriate and correct knowledge shared by cultural practitioners of the Hula, Hawaiian Knowledge, Hawaiian language, and Hawaiian Spirit. Na Wai Iwi Ola created this project to impact our community of Kona, Hawaii, serving for the last twenty years in perpetuation. *39. Please upload a completed CRF Grant Budget Form. In 2,000 characters or less, describe the measurable outcomes you aim to achieve with these funds. For the Kau'ikeauoli Hula Festival, students from local schools will participate in a Hawaiian cultural and traditional workshop focused on hula kahiko (ancient hula), hula'auna (modern hula),'ukulele (music), and lomilomi (healing practices). The goal of the festival is to strengthen cultural pride among Native Hawaiians while creating an opportunity for cultural practitioners to share and perpetuate Hawaiian culture and traditions. Measurable outcomes include students gaining historical knowledge of the foundations of hula and'ukulele, developing an understanding of the cultural significance and origins of these practices, and learning about self-healing and connections to the 'aina through lomilomi. In addition, students will participate in integrated activities designed to foster a greater sense of ALOHA—gentleness, unity, truth, humbleness, and patience—as they learn to work with and teach others. Meanwhile, the E Mau Ana Ka Hula Festival will perpetuate hula, traditions, and culture through educational and cultural experiences for the greater community. Outcomes for the community include increased knowledge of Laka, goddess of hula, and King David Kalakaua, the last reigning king of the Hawaiian Kingdom, whose impact on the world includes his efforts to perpetuate the culture and traditions of hula. Measurable outcomes for participants include opportunities to observe, honor, and learn from kumu hula and other historical knowledge keepers. Participants will experience a longstanding local festival that continues to be perpetuated by cultural practitioners and cultural seekers in the community. Educational outcomes also include increased knowledge of historical cultural practices, including kalo (taro), navigation, lomilomi, lauhala, and lei making. Through these experiences, the festival seeks to inspire participants to become advocates for Hawaiian culture and traditions and contribute to their perpetuation within our community and the world. m 0 7 m O Dcp. w 0 m o xm m 2 § = 0fp X D z .0 = s 7i _ = r -. - m 0 m m CD M RC ƒ XI XI O a) , ID fD k CD Z R I- 3 - 7 k " CD V CD TI = 0- 03 c 0.
