Hawai'i Rise Foundation's Mele Manaka 2027 is a free,three-day community celebration of Hawaiian arts, culture, music, language, and local entrepreneurship taking place April 1-3, 2027, during Merrie Monarch Week in Hilo. Since 2017, Hawaii Rise Foundation has provided free educational programs, scholarships, cultural workshops, and community events that strengthen the community and preserve Hawaiian culture. Mele Manaka is one of its signature events, bringing together local families, cultural practitioners, musicians, artisans, nonprofits, and small businesses in a free, welcoming space for everyone. Each day from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Banyan Way becomes a community gathering place featuring live Hawaiian music, cultural demonstrations, local food, artisan vendors, and hands-on workshops, including lei making, coconut leaf weaving, Hawaiian crafts, and block printing. Every evening, attendees are invited to gather for a free public viewing of the Merrie Monarch Festival, creating another opportunity for residents and visitors to celebrate Hawaiian culture together. A key part of Mele Manaka is Hawaii Rise Foundation's commitment to supporting local entrepreneurs. Unlike many Merrie Monarch events that charge vendors for booth space, Mele Manaka provides vendor spaces free of charge. This allows local artisans, nonprofit organizations, and small businesses to keep 100% of their sales while sharing their products and talents with thousands of attendees. The event also welcomes visitors from around the world, including cruise ship passengers, encouraging them to support local businesses, learn from cultural practitioners, and experience authentic Hawaiian culture while visiting Hilo. This benefits not only participating vendors but also nearby restaurants, shops, and businesses throughout the Banyan Drive area. *37. 5O1(c)(3) Mission Statement To create opportunities for vulnerable or moderate-and low-income families, children, and the elderly by providing educational and cultural services, programs, and support. *38. In 2,000 characters or less, describe the measurable outcomes you aim to achieve with these funds. Measurable Outcomes: Hawai'i Rise Foundation aims to achieve the following measurable outcomes through Mele Manaka 2027: Support more than 100 local businesses, artisans, cultural practitioners, and nonprofit organizations by providing free vendor and participation opportunities, allowing them to retain 100% of their sales. Generate more than $300,000 in collective revenue for participating local businesses and vendors over the three-day event, creating a significant direct economic impact for Hawai'i Island entrepreneurs. Provide free cultural workshops and educational programming throughout the event, giving attendees hands-on opportunities to learn Hawaiian arts, practices, language, and traditions from local cultural practitioners. Increase access to Hawaiian cultural education by ensuring workshops, demonstrations, performances, and community activities remain free and accessible to residents and visitors of all ages. Strengthen connections between residents and visitors by creating an inclusive gathering place where local families, kupuna, keiki, cultural practitioners, entrepreneurs, and visitors can come together to celebrate and experience Hawaiian culture. Expand economic impact beyond the event itself by drawing attendees to the Banyan Drive area and encouraging spending at surrounding Hilo restaurants, shops, accommodations, and other local businesses. Success will be measured by vendor participation, estimated collective vendor sales, the workshops and educational programming offered, and overall event attendance. Together, these outcomes will demonstrate Mele Manaka's measurable cultural, educational, economic, and community impact. m % E m O » -a m O r) 2 al k2 0 0 2 CD / - § § 2 § = _ a o as 2 7 M O . 2 n R M i- 7CrtI § re. = o m Xi 7 CD C. -i Ti = W c 011 2 < O w w - — 3 B R M O 0 a)b b § 0 0 o A- 0 a o _ w k c t o / 0 § i 0 . ] in- t t 2 a3 _ m 0 0 k < v) = is . . . . . . . . . . . . . , . . . . .
