The YMCA's Keep the Lights On: Safe Nights at the YMCA project will support purchasing a generator to power the
Globug light system, providing reliable lighting for free evening events open to the public. The project will primarily
support fall festivities, when daylight hours are limited, by creating a safer, brighter environment for families and
community members. Reliable lighting will improve visibility throughout YMCA event spaces, help deter crime and
reduce safety concerns, and expand access to safe community spaces after dark. With a dedicated generator, the
YMCA can provide consistent lighting without relying solely on existing lighting conditions or available power
sources. By improving safety and visibility, Keep the Lights On will strengthen the YMCA's ability to host welcoming
nighttime gatherings where individuals and families can participate comfortably and confidently. The project will
help ensure that free community events remain accessible, secure, and inviting during evening hours while
supporting the YMCA's commitment to providing safe spaces for the community.
*44. 501(c)(3) Mission Statement
The Island of Hawai'i YMCA is a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening communities through youth

annual week of Fall Festivities each October. These events provide a safe, welcoming space for individuals and
families while promoting healthy living, youth development, drug and alcohol awareness, crime prevention,
electronic smoking device prevention, and healthy nutrition. The YMCA brings together community partners,
including the Hawai'i Police Department, the National Guard, the Department of Health, the Tobacco Prevention
Coalition, the Big Island Substance Abuse Council, Going Home, youth sports organizations, churches, and other
local groups. Community organizations will also have opportunities to host carnival games, share resources, engage
with families, and give back. This project will help the YMCA continue providing a safe, well-lit environment where

funds.
With this request, the YMCA aims to achieve the following measurable outcomes through Keep the Lights On: Safe
Nights at the YMCA: • $1,000 will be used towards the purchase of a Honda generator to power the YMCA's Globug
light system for outdoor nighttime programming. •The generator will provide power for the reliable lighting Globug
system for 100% of scheduled free evening community events held during the YMCA's Fall Festivities. • Increase
the availability of safe, well-lit outdoor space for families, youth, volunteers, community partners, and the general
public during evening hours. • Support crime prevention and safety efforts by improving visibility in event and
activity areas after dark. • Increase community participation and attendance at evening events by creating a
brighter, safer, and more welcoming environment. • Strengthen participants'sense of safety and security, measured
through event feedback, staff observations, and incident reporting. • Increase opportunities for community
I organizations, agencies, youth groups, churches, and volunteers to participate in carnival activities, educational
outreach, and resource sharing. The YMCA will track event attendance, participating community organizations and
volunteers, use of the lighting system, and any safety-related incidents. These outcomes will demonstrate how the
project improves safety, expands access to community programming, and supports free, family-friendly evening
events for the South Hilo community.
