Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 694-26,reports as follows:
Resolution No. 694-26,transmitted by Housing Administrator Kehaulani M. Costa via
Communication No. 1094, dated September 15,2026, authorizes the Mayor to enter into an
intergovernmental agreement with the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development
to receive a grant for the Kukuiola Supportive Housing project in North Kona.
This resolution allows for the receipt of$1,892,000 in federally-derived funds to assist with the
planning, design, and construction of the Kukuiola Supportive Housing project.
Housing and Community Development Specialist Anne Bailey was present and provided an overview.
Committee Member Dennis "Fresh" Onishi asked how many of these units were dedicated to
assisting families. Ms. Bailey clarified that these units are intended to assist only couples and single
individuals. She explained that another housing project is available to that assist families; however,
because couples and single individuals represent the largest underserved population in North Kona,
this program focuses on addressing their housing needs.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 694-26, and
recommends its adoption.
