I write to request that the Council DEFER consideration of these two bills.
As a resident whose home is only 200 yards from the entrance to the Hulu evacuation road, and who has
observed the difficulties inherent in that route, I respectfully ask that before additional development that
will strain existing infrastructure in Waikoloa Village is allowed to advance, the County must:
- Provide for second road, funded and planned. In so doing the County needs to promptly spend the $2.5
million already allocated to the design and planning of the road;
- Conduct a cumulative impact study for the region; and
- Commission a real emergency evacuation study.
The lessons of Lahaina are fresh in our minds. With three wildfires visible from my home this year alone,
the threat is imminent, real, and substantial. I call on you to respond now.
