Aloha,
My name is Kapulei and I am a Native Hawaiian born and raised in Waimea. I am writing in OPPOSITION
to Bills 186 & 187 regarding the Waikoloa Green LLC project. This project is currently trying to be rushed
through without the proper protocols that should be required if they aren't already.
There has been no environmental assessment for a project that is 716 acres. That is completely
unacceptable and fully irresponsible. We should know what is there before any type of project is
considered to be built.
Waikoloa is already a major fire hazard area with infrastructure already stretched thin. This project
makes an existing safety hazard even worse, especially when it comes to evacuations being backed up
by hours of traffic. This project has not shown that they are aware of the current fire and safety hazards of
the area and have not factored that into their project.
They also want to take water from the Waimea aquifer for their project, which further depletes our natural
resources. They shouldn't be allowed to take and divert so much water for their project when it is already
hard to get water to Waikoloa. The Waimea community doesn't deserve to be negatively impacted by this
project who is trying to take the resources from a community that is not theirs.
We need responsible growth, not unchecked development!
Please help us protect our communities and OPPOSE Bills 186 & 187!
