I am in opposi?on of this project by Waikoloa Green LLC and am opposing Bills 186 & 187. Here are some reasons why this project threatens our community 1 - No Environment Assessment: A 716-acre project with no completed environmental assessment? We deserve to know the impact before a single shovel hits the dirt. 2 - Wildfire Evacua?on Risk: Infrastructure is already stretched thin. Following recent fires with traffic backed up for hours, we know how dangerous a bo?leneck evacua?on can be. This project makes an exis?ng safety hazard even worse. 3 - Water Risks: Developers haven't shown that our LIMITED FRESH WATER from the WAIMEA AQUIFER (that stretches from Kawaihae to Waikoloa) won't be nega?vely impacted without causing future water restric?ons. The amount of water being pumped out of this aquifer for residen?al developments, resort areas, pools, and golf courses are near its capacity of the sustainable yield of 16 mgd. This doesn't take into account those projects already approved in this region who haven't started extrac?ng water yet. Bills 186 & 187 propose zoning and land use changes for this immense project of over 716 acres and over 805 units on the southern edge of Waikoloa Village. Why would we rush through such a mega development without considering its threats to our environment, our water, our exis?ng community? We need responsible growth not unchecked development. As a long ?me resident of Waikoloa, I am deeply concerned about the impact this decision will have on our community's safety and quality of life. I strongly request that you vote against Bills 186 & 187. Respec?ully, Malia Nakamura Po Box 384892 Waikoloa, Hawai'i 96738 1
