RESOLUTION NO. 718 26
A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A DONATION OF FENCING MATERIALS AND
LABOR FOR THE PANA`EWA RAINFOREST ZOO AND GARDENS ON BEHALF OF
THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION
WHEREAS,Article XIII, Section 13-12,of the Charter of the County of Hawai`i
(hereinafter"the Charter")provides that the Council,"on behalf of the county,may accept gifts
of donations of money, securities or other personal property or of real estate or any interest in
real estate"; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 2,Article 30, Section 2-162(a),of the Hawai`i County Code 1983
(2016 Edition, as amended) (hereinafter"the Code")provides, in part,that"gifts or donations of
money, securities, or personal property which fall within the capitalization procedures of the
department of finance may be accepted by resolution approved by the council"; and
WHEREAS, an anonymous donor wishes to donate fencing for the quarantine pasture
and secondary containment pad, inclusive of fencing materials and labor, which have an
estimated total value of approximately$74,000,to the Department of Parks and Recreation for
the Pana`ewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens; and
WHEREAS,the donated fencing establishes a secure habitat, enabling the zoo to
introduce larger hoofed animals to the exhibit;and
WHEREAS,the Department of Parks and Recreation is grateful for this donation and
recommends its acceptance by the Council;now,therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that,
pursuant to Section 13-12 of the Charter and Section 2-162 of the Code,the donation from the
anonymous donor hereinabove described is hereby accepted.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to William V. Brilhante,Jr.,Managing Director; Clayton S. Honma,Parks and
Recreation Director; and PO Box 392, Honomu,HI 96728.
