My wife Natalie and I own and operate two short-term rentals at Kanaloa at Kona, Units 1604 and 2505, at 78-261 Manukai Street in Kailua- Kona. We’re small, local operators in the sense that these are our own units, not a large portfolio. We employ a local cleaner, follow our AOAO rules, collect and pay Hawaii GET and TAT monthly, and try to be good neighbors. Our guests support restaurants, shops and activities in Keauhou and Kona. We support clear, enforceable rules and registration for vacation rentals. What we ask is that any final bill protect the ability of existing, compliant multifamily and resort-area rentals like Kanaloa to keep operating under a predictable framework, with clear permitting and registration requirements and enforcement aimed at bad actors rather than owners who are following the rules. Please also keep the registration and compliance path practical for small owners, and avoid retroactive changes that would strand people who bought and permitted their units in reliance on the existing rules. Thank you for your time and for considering our perspective. Mahalo, Mike Keelan Kanaloa at Kona Units 1604 and 2505 78-261 Manukai Street Kailua-Kona, HI 96740 1
