Aloha!
My name is Jesse Rubendall, I am a resident of North Kohala (Kapaau) and would like to register to
testify against Bill 147 as it stands. Please sign me up for in person feedback for tomorrow's council
meeting at 9am.
We have previously testified against Bill 147, as residents, employees in the STR industry, and active
farmers here in our Kohala community. This bill would make our STR business that has existed for
over 20 years impossible to run with the proposed regulations of limited registered STR's to 5
bedrooms, and not allowing multiple homes on one property to be rentals. My family's livelihood (my
wife, our 2 year old daughter and I) is directly tied to running this business, plus we are provided with
affordable housing by the owners of the property for caretaking the land, as well as well as running
the STR business.
Bill 147 is trying to overregulate and overreach. The bill simply needs to state that we register these
businesses through the new portal, pay taxes, and be a good neighbor. That's it.
