Subject:Bill 147 — STRONG OPPOSITION
Hello,
I am writing in strong opposition to Bill 147.
As a local house cleaner, my livelihood depends on vacation rentals. These properties provide steady
work that allows me to support myself and my family. When you create regulations that threaten these
businesses, you aren’t just hurting property owners. You’re hurting the local working families who
depend on them.
All of the vacation rental properties I clean are legally permitted, and many have more than five
bedrooms. These are established businesses that have operated responsibly for years, some for over 20
years. Yet Bill 147 threatens their ability to continue operating because of new restrictions, including
limits affecting larger properties.
The rules should be simple: Register your business, pay your taxes, and be a good neighbor.
Instead, Bill 147 adds more restrictions on where vacation rentals can operate, expands the definition of
short-term rentals to stays under 180 days, and introduces additional operating standards and
compliance requirements.
These regulations create uncertainty for established, legally operating businesses. Some may be forced
to close, taking local jobs and income with them.
Why are we making it harder for responsible businesses to survive when we should be supporting our
local economy?
Please consider the house cleaners, landscapers, maintenance workers, and other local families whose
livelihoods depend on these properties.
I strongly urge you to vote NO on Bill 147.
Mahalo
