Attention: Mr. Harry Takahashi, Managing Director
Dear Mr. Takahashi,
Congratulations to all those individuals and groups on the successful completion of the
Liliuokalani Park Restoration Project. We sincerely appreciate the work that the County and its
contractors have done to beautify the area and make it more accessible to all.
It is our understanding that the County intends to open the park to general vehicle traffic in the
near future. As frequent users of the park, we respectfully request that you reconsider this
decision. It is our observation that since the restoration, walking traffic has increased
considerably. The project has increased the amount or visitor and resident walking traffic to the
extent that to open it further to general automobile, motorcycle, and bus traffic would seriously
take away from the experience of a quiet stroll through one of the most beautiful spots in the
entire state ofHawaii-
In completing such a worthwhile project, we feel that you have hit upon just a right combination
of aesthetics and practicality that has transformed the park into a very special place. We feel quite
strongly that increasing access beyond handicap access and foot traffic would take away from the
goals you have achieved.
Sincerely,
ter ~
