Comm. 211: APPOINTMENT TO THE PLANNING COMMISSION

From Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro, dated March 24, 1999, submitting
for confirmation the following appointment to the Planning Commission:
Ms. Florence S. Kubota of Hilo (Council District 2), a lifetime
resident of Hawaii who, since 1989, has been retired after serving
thirty years as an educator with the State of Hawaii Department of
Education. She is a member of the Democratic Party.
If confirmed, Ms. Kubota will replace Kevin M. Balog of
Hamakua (Council District 1), whose term expired on
December 31, 1998, and will serve a term to end on
December 31, 2003.

Comm. 214: APPOINTMENTS TO THE WATER COMMISSION
- RAYMOND M. KAWAMATA & JOHN S. TOLMIE, JR.
From Mayor Stephen K. Yarnashiro, dated March 24, 1999, submitting
for confirmation the following appointments to the Water Commission:
Mr. Raymond M. Kawamata of Kamuela, a 50-year resident of
Hawaii who, since 1983, has been the owner/manager of
Kawamata Farms, Inc. He has no political party affiliation.
Mr. John S. Tolmie, Jr., of Hilo, a 28-year resident of Hawaii who,
since 1976, has been self-employed as a real estate developer. He
has no political party affiliation
Mr. Kawamata will replace Mr. Fred T. Yamashiro of Kamuela,
whose term expired on December 31, 1998, and Mr. Tolmie will
replace Mr. Thomas P. Whittemore of Kona, whose term expired
on December 31, 1998. If confirmed, both Messrs. Kawamata and
Tolmie will serve terms to end on December 31, 2003.
