Comm_81): REQUEST BY HOMEOWNERS OF KEHENA, PUNA PALISADES AND SEAVIEW SUBDIVISONS TO PAVE HIGHWAY 137 (KAPOHO-KALAPANA ROAD) WITH REGULAR BLACK ASPHALT INSTEAD OF RED ASPHALT Copy of letter to Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro from Elisabeth Olesen, dated June 12, 2000, based on the input of many homeowners in the Kehena, Puna Palisades and Seaview subdivisions, and because of the non-response from the Public Works Department, requests that Highway 137 (Kapoho-Kalapana Road) be paved with black asphalt. Informs the road is narrow, winding and dangerous and is used by tourists and locals because of its scenic beauty and to get to places along the Puna Coastline. States there is a small group of people who do not support the paving of Hwy. 137, and who have had private meetings with the Public Works Department insisting that red asphalt which was used years ago, be used. However, the road has been patched with black asphalt. Requests the Administration's support to proceed with the paving by July I, 2000, at the lowest cost option and hopes Federal funding for this project will not be lost.
