tiom Council Member Bobby Jean Leithead-Todd, dated April 8,
1999, informing the County is currently looking at alternative solid
waste management programs. Requests a meeting with them to
discuss their system.

CONCERNING TAXI COMPANIES CONDUCTED ON
BEHALF OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII MASS
TRANSPORTATION AGENCY
From Stephen J. Tait, Vice President, Wood & Tait Inc., dated
Apri129, 1999, transmitting their investigation reports concerning
taxi companies operating in Hilo and Kona to determine if they aze
operating within the rules and regulations of the Mass
Transportation Agency. They are particularly interested to learn if
the taxi companies charge flat rate fares or group rates, rather than
charging customers according to the meter in the cabs.

Comm. 316: TRAFFIC CODE AMENDMENT-MILOLII ACCESS ROAD:
(Bill 86) PROPOSED SPEED LIMITS
From Deputy Chief Engineer Jiro A. Sumada, dated May 24, 1999,
informing that the Police Department and the Milolii Village
Community requested speed limits be authorized along Milolii
Access Road. After investigation, they concluded that a speed
limit of 25 miles per hour for the mauka portion of the roadway
and 15 miles per hour through the village area are appropriate.
Transmits a bill for the subject amendment.
Comm. 330: TRAFFIC CODE AMENDMENT
(Bi1192) WAINAKU STREET -PROPOSED NO PARKING ZONE,
KAIWIKI ROAD TO HAAHEO ROAD
From Deputy Chief Engineer Jiro A. Sumada, dated June 7, 1999,
transmitting a bill eliminating parking on both sides of Wainaku
Street, Kaiwiki Road to Haaheo Road. They received a request to
authorize a no parking zone on the mauka side of Wainaku Street
because parked vehicles restrict sight distance for motorists
entering Wainaku Street from side roads and driveways. Since the
ongoing road improvements along Wainaku Street has provided
pedestrians walkways on both sides of the road, they recommend
parking be eliminated on both sides.
