Comm. 607: REAPPOINTMENT OF CINDY A. HARA TO THE HAWAII COUNTY COMMITTEE ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN From Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro, dated December 23, 1999, informing he has reappointed Cindy A. Hara of Hilo (Council District 2) to serve on the Hawaii County Committee on the Status of Women. Ms. Hara, a lifetime resident of Hawaii, has been a Housing Specialist with the County of Hawaii, Office of Housing, since 1998. She will serve a term ending on December 1, 2003. (Note: This appointment does not need Council's confirmation.) HS&EDC-12 Page 2 FEBRUARY I, 2000 Comm. 609: REAPPOINTMENT OF LAURINE K. CARVALHO TO THE HAWAII COUNTY COMMITTEE ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN From Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro, dated December 28, 1999, informing he has reappointed Laurine K. Carvalho of Volcano (Council District 6) to serve on the Hawaii County Committee on the Status of Women. Ms. Carvalho, alife-time resident of Hawaii, has been an Escrow Assistant with the First American Long & Malone Title Company, Ltd. since 1996. She will serve a term ending on December 31, 2004. (Note: This appointment does not need Council's confirmation.) STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON ITEM ON THE AGENDA PRESENTATION BY PUA TOKUMOTO OF PUA TAHITI PRODUCTIONS ON THE FIRST TAHITI FETE OF HILO TO BE HELD ON FEBRUARY 18-20, 2000 AT THE AFOOK-CHINEN CIVIC AUDITORIUM (COMM. 586) REFERRAL Comm. 586: FIRST ANNUAL - HEIVA 2000 -TAHITI FETE OF HILO A POLYNESIAN DANCE COMPETITION EXTRAVAGANZA From Pua Tokumoto, Producer of the First Tahiti Fete of Hilo, dated December 10, 1999, requesting to do a presentation on th above-mentioned event, which will be held at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium on February 18-2Q, 2000. Also informs this event, for the last 10 years, has been one of the most popular programs in the Bay Area of San Jose and San Francisco. 'T'his fete was responsible for filing several hundred hotel rooms in the area. The Mayor of San Jose requested she continue this popular 4`h of July weekend event. States she and her husband wanted to come home to Hawaii and to start a new Fete in Hilo, which they feel will generate business for Hilo and will create a wonderful cultural experience for all; therefore, requests that she be allowed to make the presentation and to show a video of the Tahiti Fete done in San Jose. GOVERNMENT ACCESS TELEVISION: Channel 9 (Hilo) and Channel l2 (Kona) The Public Works & Parks Committee and Finance Committee meetings can be seen on Tuesday, February 1 at 8:30 p.m. and Tuesday, February 8 at 8:30 p.m. The Human Services & Economic Development Committee and the Planning Committee meetings can he seen on Thursday, February 3 at 8:30 p.m. and Thursday, February 10 at 8:30 p.m. All the above meetings will be aired on Sunday, February 13 at 9 a.m.
