RE: NON-PROFIT FUNDING REQUESTS
Please be informed that on April 1, 1997 the Committee on Human Services and Public Works
will meet to discuss and determine our recommendations for the non-profit grant requests.
This year's review process has been very challenging. The State's poor economic condition and
cut backs in public assistance programs have caused hardship for our non-profit service
providers. Every program must face decreased revenue sources while confronting increased case
loads and public need. The agencies we currently fund need more assistance, but at the same
time, valuable new agencies and programs are also seeking funds to address those in need. In
light of this difficult situation, the staff and I are working diligently to provide recommended
funding amounts that are both sensitive and thoughtful. I will provide you with our suggested
funding amounts as soon as they are complete.
I have appreciated the Council's efforts and assistance during the non-profit site visits and public
hearings. The questions have been insightful and thought provoking. I look forward to
completing our funding recommendations at our April 1, 1997 meeting.
