Subject Nomination of Christopher Yuen as Planning Director
I am writing to express my wholehearted support for Christopher Yuen as dvector of
planning for Hawai i County I have known Mr Yuen for more than 10 years, ever since
he was appomted in 1990 to the Big Island seat on the state Board of Land and Natural
Resources
In my cspaaty as a reporter covering the Land Board, I can attest to Mr Yuen's sharp
eye for defending the public's interest in many complex issues concerning land leases
and management of the state's vast land and infrastructure portfolio On the basis of my
first-hand observation of his work, I would strongly dispute any claim that he lacks
sufficient managerial experience to hold down the job to which he has been appointed
Apart from his managerial skills, Mr Yuen also possesses a well honed sense of fairness
and has been a dedicated and scrupulously honest servant of the public Equally
urrportant, he has the greatest respect for the personal dignity of others and a gentle sense
of humor that can defuse even the tensest situations
I can thvilc of no one, frankly, who rs better matched to the Iob than Mr Yuen is to the
position of planning director I wholeheartedly urge you to affum his nomination
