Dear Mr. Arakaki and Members of the County Council:
I etror~gly support the selection of Chrle Yuen as Planning Director four the
County of Hawaii, and urge you to confirm his appointment.
I have known Chris for some 25 years, and would be hard pressed to name e
more intelligent, hard-working, ethical or committed individual. A person of
strong canvletione, he nonathelees is exceedingly fait and takes the time to research
issues, basing his actions on the best passible infornnation.
During his tenure with the Board of Land and Natural Resources, I have
Observed hie careful n,ram;natlpn of data brought before that body and the manner
in which he takes both the pros and cons of an issue into aorount during
deliberations. He ie also approachable and open to disctteeione on controversial
points.
Since 1979, when I moved from Honolulu, I have lived and and worked on
the Hig Island. My areas of profeaianal expertise include renewable energy and
responsible forestry. Convetsatlons with Chris on these topics assure me that lamas
abroad understand#ng of the issues facing the County in land use and ecx~wmit~
