Re 1995/1996 Punahoa St extension
TMK 3/2-3-8-13,14,15
Dear Ms Leithead-Todd,
This letter is in regards to the 1995 Punahoa Street extensloh, which Included portions
of TMK 3/2-3-8-13,14, and 15 We wrote to you last year about this same matter, and we
did not receive any response to our inquiry. We have been told by the traffic division that we
can only go through the county council to correct this problem We respectfully request
your assistance In this matter
A loading zone was planned for the businesses along this small, one-way street when
Punahoa Street was extended In 1995 This past week, county workers have again repaintec}
the loading zone fronting Big Island Estate Jewelry and Abundant LIFe Natural Foods The
load)ng zone that now remains Is Inadequate for the use of BIg Island Estate Jewelry and
Abundant Llfe For them, an essential loading zone has been "lost°, and It Is once again
creating a hardship for these businesses Big Island Estate Jewelry especially stands to lose
business Some customers of BIg Island Estate Jewelry, a pawn shop, need to load and unload
Items from their vehicles without fear of being ticketed Delivery drivers to Abundant Life
Natural Foods also need to load and unload their vehicles at her store

The property owner dedicated a portion of his property to the county For the street
extension, with the understanding that the businesses occupying his building would have a
loading zone (The sidewalk remains private property) We worked with Russell Kokubun
and Mr Gomes during the extension process We have been told that to remedy this current
situation, the county counalperson For the downtown area would need to bring this matter
before the county council In the meantime, these small downtown businesses suffer from
the loss oFthis vital loading zone
Enclosed are some pertinent documents regarding the original Punahoa Street
extension We would dppreaate your assistance in having the street area behind Abundant
Life Natural Foods and Big Island Estate Jewelry o(fiadlly designated as d loading zone, and
the pertinent regulating agenaes so notified Thank you for your prompt response and
assistance in this matter
