Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred
Communication No 34 from Mayor Hany Kim dated December 12, 2000, reports as follows
Communication No 34 recommends the appointment of Dennis K W Lee as the Hawai`~ County Public
Works Director for a co-terminous term with Mayor Kim to end at noon on December 6, 2004
Mr Lee has been employed by the Department of Water Supply of the County of Hawa~`~ from
December 1990 to present He has also worked for the County's Department of Public Works and the
U S Department of the Army and has been a registered professional engineer in civil engineering since
1975
At the meeting, Mayor Harry Kim and Mr Gil Kahele from Hilo, both spoke m favor of Mr Lee's
appomtment Addmonal letters of support are reflected in Communication Nos 34 1 through 34 3 The
committee also received a letter from Mr David Kimo Frankel regarding restructuring the department
Communication No 34 4, dated January 2, 2001 from Mayor Hany Kim, makes reference to a charter
amendment that re-titled this position to the Dvector of the Public Works Department
Chair Elanonoff requested of Mr Lee that when the Public Works Department transmits items to this
committee for consideration, that they are forwarded as a complete package and that referrals include all
supporting and pertinent documents from the onset
Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovemmental Relations recommends the confirmation of the
appomtment of Mr Dennis K W Lee as the County of Hawao's Director of Public Works
