Keaau, Hawaii
Public Comments On Zoning Request
Sure Save supports the Gateway Shopping Center and recommends the County Council
approve the requested inning, contingent that the proposed development be located in the
Keaau town or an area adjacent to Keaau ballpark. Sure Save supports business growth
and sernces for the people of the District of Puna.
Puna residents need, more retail variety, and services from businesses, professionals, and
government The Keaau town and azeas immediately adjacent to should be developed
for these uses.
A "Community Position Statement: has been circulated and has been signed by more than
1,700 resident of Puna The community statement says
"BUILD THE GATEWAY SHOPPING CENTER IN KEAAU TOWN OR NEXT TO
THE BALL PARK NOT ON THE BYPASS
I reside or am employed in the distnct of Puna
Residents of Hawaiian Paradise Park, Orchidland, Ainaloa, and Pahoa side residents need
a good bypass, and the intent of the bypass should not be compromised by placing a third
shopping center in the azea
We support the Gateway Shopping Center provided it's built within Keaau~Town or
adjacent to the Keaau ballpazk
Puna is the fastest growing area on the Island Of Hawaii and traffic will continue to be a
major concern as the azea rapidly grows. ~

We support economic development and support the need for additional business and~obs.
We recommend that the County Of Hawaii approve the Gateway Shopping Center
contingent upon its location in Keaau town or next to the Keaau ballpazk."
The vision of a large commercial area in Keaau offers more than three individually
approved centers competing against one another. One stronger commercial core has the
best potential of drawing customers from a lazger azea. A strong commercial core can
draw customers from Puna, Hilo, and Kau, thus has the potential of creating more fobs
than three smaller centers.
Sure Save supports W H. Slvpman's Gateway Shopping Center and supports a good road
to service Puna. Please build the shopping center in Keaau Town or next to the Keaau
ballpark so that we do not compromise the original intent of the bypass and also bnng
new business to Puna.
Thank you allowing the public to give input at this public hearing.
