C`_ `'Il T ~7 u Januan 25,2001 _ _ Councilman James Y Arakaki, Chair Hawaii County Council 25 Aupunt Street Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Dear Councilman Arakaki We would like to request that rou place the following cornspondence on the agenda for the _l+Ierch 21, 2001 council mewing in Kona On January 19, 2001, the Police Commission unanimously voted in favor of holding public heanngs coocerrtiog the possible relunng of Wood & Tait as their invesdgatois beforo the bid process comes up td Jurie of this year As you may recall, we have been pursuing this issue since 1998 month the Commtsston, because we strodgly fee) that Wood & Tait's investigations are mcompleu and give improper tofonnadon to the Poltce Commtsston Because we have received the support of the Commtsston, based un them look»tg into our specific allegations, we also feel tt is appropnau at this time, to request that the County Council consider looking at the fees that Rood & Tait charged for hvo investigations that were done because of complaims that 1 brought to the Commtsston in 1997 (HPC 97-29 end HPC 97-30) Their fees totaled almost 56,000 that was shouldered by the taxpayers and we feel that the Counh• is due a refund by this firm In August of 1998,1 requested that the Finadce Comniittce mvesttgau whether the taxpayers of the Counn~ of Hawreit were due a refund from the investigative firm of Wood 6t Tatt Again, we made this request because we felt their mveshgahons were mcompleu and gave improper information to the Police Commtsston which they based their decisions on The chair of that committee, Aaron Chung, took tt upon himself to investigate our complaint Since the "tnternews" that Councilman Chung conducted were not documented, but rather conducted by phone, we have no way of accessing arty information on this matter A4r Chuog's investigation was not documented and therefore there is nothing to the record that we can request to either verify or quash our suspicions We hate been informed Irv the former Corporanon Council to the Police Conimtssion, that Mr Chung's irn'estigadon may not have been appropriate With that, w•e would request that the County Council pursue a proper investigation of Wood 8c Teit as it pertains to tax dollars paid out, not only to my two investtgadons, and leave the Comm.
