Re Response to meeting of January 23, 2001, Animal Control special study
bear Counalman Tyler,
As a past board member of HIHS I read the newspaper accounts d the
last finance meeting concerning anxnal control wdh much interest It seems to me the
auditors report has correctly targeted three key areas the county needs to address to insure
future success Those areas are proper funding, cooperation of the prosecutor's office rn
tralrnng and badg~ng new officer's In a limey manner, and updating ineffective animal control
laws ff these things were addressed and another evaluation was done In a fair amount of
time maybe a year later the county would probably not need in consider a r>aw pohoe
dnnsion to handle arnmal control. That time well spent would also gnre the other counties
time m aNgn in hlnng an evaluation team from the mainland to evaluate the state across the
board, certainly making for the most effective evaluation Why waste tax payer money on
an expensive evaluation at this premature point We've waded a long time for the auditor's
report, why not fix what's broken first? You wouldn't send an automobtNa to a race
speaahst for an expensnre evaluation with three flat tires, its ony common sense I am
grateful for your orxping concern and I am glad the county is firmly gnnng this the bng
overdue consideration d deserves.
