Creating a ful{ time position <br /> increases consistency and accowitablllry, aNows time for program <br /> development and grant writing, and allows for more pracNpt island <br /> wide servke. A full time position Is important to attract professional <br /> talent. <br /> The current half time position is on-call during limited hours of the <br /> afternoon and evenings. This Is for individual problem solving and <br /> intervention only. Minimal awareness training has been conducted for the <br /> Summer Fun staff. This is not acceptable. <br /> County funding has been allocated for physical barrier removal in our <br /> recreation faGNties in order to comply with the ADA. It's time to <br /> allocate funds for accessible recreation ~Qgrams. staff training. and <br /> communit~edlaboration~The consulting fees for the County's ADA self <br /> evaluation for Parks and Recreation programs wero enough to fund a full <br /> time therapeutic recreation specialist position for over S years. Now It's <br /> time to invest in people and service, not Just goad ideas on paper. <br /> 1 have a son with a disability, I volunteer for 4 community boards In the <br /> disability field, and I have bean an advocate fbr inclusive programs for 8 0 <br /> years.
