Da+~ FEB 1 3 2~ Chairman Arakaki and Council Members Page 2 February 13, 2001 Council District 5 -Jeanne Fuller is a 19-year resident of Hawa~'i She is ~ce president of Pacific A¢ Supply, Inc , a locally-owned small business She is a resident of Hawaiian Paradise Park She states that she ~s not affiliated with any political party Council District 6 -Lloyd Van De Car is a lifelong resident of the State of Hawaii, and has lived m Hawaii County for the last 23 years He was an attorney for the Legal .4id Society for fourteen years, and is now in private practice Mr Van De Car does volunteer legal work representing indigent persons He is on the board of directors of the non-profit Hawaii Trends Research Institute, and in the past has served on the board of the East Hawaii Cultural Center and Legal Aid Society of Hawaii Mr Van De Car states that he is a member of the Green Party Council District 7 -Mark Van Pernis is 24-year resident of Hawaii He ?s an attorney in private practice Among his community activities are being an appoimce of Hawaii Supreme Court Justice Herman Lum to the Committce to Study the Need for Reinstituting the Fourth Judicial Circuit, and an appointee of the State Legislature advising the 1990-1991 State of Hawai'~ Legislative Redistricting Commission He has served on the advisory committee of the West Hawaii Red Cross, has been an Ironman Triathlon aid station volunteer, and has been a commissioner for the County of Hawaii Parks and Recreation Department Makule Basketball League Mr Van Penns states that he ~s a member of the Democratic Party Council District 8 -Jack Ferguson is a retired attorney who has lived in Hawaii for six years He now serves as a surrogate parent advocate for special education children He is member of the Kona Palisades Estates Homeowners Association, and for the last two years has served as its president He served for four years as a county supervisor in Napa County, California, and also served on the Napa County Board of Education and as Chief Deputy District Attorney in Napa Mr Ferguson states that he is not affiliated with any political PAY Council Dutrict 9 -John Fernandez was born and raised in Hawaz'i He is retired from working in the field of hotel, retail and restaurant management, and has a certificate in hotel administration from Michigan State University After working on the mainland for 25 years, he returned to Hawaii to live upon his retirement in 1997 He is active in community affairs, serving as chairperson of the North Kohala Community Voices Council and as a member of the Long-term Care Planning Group He is also active in senior citizen activities He states that he is not affiliated with any political party If approved, these individuals will serve until a reapportionment plan is filed with the County Clerk, which must be done by December 31, 2001 Chairman Arakalu and Council Members Page 2 February 13, 2001 Because the County Charter requires that the members of the Reapportionment Commission be appoimed and approved by the County Council before March 1 of this year, we request that these appointments be waived from committce and taken up at the County Council meeting scheduled for February 22, 2001 Should you have any questions regarding any of these nominations, please feel free to call me at your convenience Aloha, Harry I{im MAYOR Cc Antoinette Bello Byron Toma Lawrence Balberde Abbie Napeahi Jeanne Fuller Lloyd Van De Car Mark Van Perms Jack Ferguson John Fernandez (PER THE HAWAII COUNTY CHARTER, SECTION 3-17(d), confirmation must be by March 1, 2001.)
