A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING MARCH AS NATIONAL WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH
WHEREAS, March 2001 is the thirteenth annual National Women's History Month; and
WHEREAS, the theme of this year's National Women's History Month is "Celebrating Women
of Cotrrege and Vision"; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Committee on the Status of Women is sponsoring a "Real
Women" Creative Writing Competition for students islandwide in grades 5 through 12; and
WHEREAS, the essay contest increases awareness of the many different ways that women made
history in Hawaii and fosters pride in the outstanding accomplishments of women in Hawaii.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that is recognizes March as National Women's History Month and acknowledges the courage
and countless contributions of women who made history throughout the United States and especially on
the Island of Hawaii.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is instructed to transmit
copies of this resolution to Mrs. Laurine K. Carvalho, Essay Coordinator, and to the Hawaii Cotmty
Committee on the Status of Women, along with the Hawaii County Council's best wishes for success
and reco~tition deserving of their worthy contributions.
