COUNTY COUNCIL ~ County of Hawa+i Hawai+ County Butldrng 25 Aupunt Sheet Hilo, Hawaii 96720 February I5, 2001 Ms. Pat Engelhazd, Director Department of Parks & Recreation 25 Aupuni St. Hilo, HI 96720 Deaz Pat, The Department of Parks and Recreation has done an exceptional job with Lili'uokalani Park in Hilo. The feedback from the community has been positive, however, the Lili'uokalani Park perimeter roadway has been a subject of concern. As Chairman of the Environmental and Parks Committee, I have received numerous calls and letters from the public requesting that the perimeter roadway remain closed to vehiculaz traffic. It seems that the decision by yow departrnent to keep the roadway closed is strongly supported by the public and the ma~onty (if not all) of the Councilmembers I have consulted with Mr. Richard Nislumwa of the Traffic Division, and he as no traffic concerns regarding suppomng the continued closwe of tlvs roadway. If you have no ob~ecGons, I would like to pwsue initiating a council resolution through Councihnember Aazon Chung supporting the permanent closwe of the Lili'uokalani Park perimeter roadway. This way the community concern regarding this wonderful public pazk facility can be put at ease. Thank you very much for yow consideration, and I look forwazd to yow wntten response. armest Aloha, + tr~-r ~ 5 13 S, 3 Dominic Yagong, Chazrman Comm.
