It is my pleasure to nominate the following Individuals to fhe newly created Hawaii County Fire
Commission
Council Dtshid 1 - Rudolph C Hart Is a lifelong resident of Hawau He is a former Emergency
Medical Technician and Ambulance Service Supervisor He has been very active in community
service by serving on boards and commissions including the Water Commisson, Liquor
Commission, and the Emergency Medical Services Advisory Commtsson He has also been
very active in organ¢ations such as the Boy Scouts of Amenca, the Hawau Safety Council, the
Hamakua Deveopment Council, the American Legion, the Honokaa Catholic Church, and the
Hamakua Senior Citizen 3t>ftball Team Mr Hart is a member of the Democratic Party, and will
serve a term to expire on December 31, 2005
Council Dlstrkt 3 - Karen T Maedo is a lifelong resident of Hawau She is a recently retired
school teacher Her last position was vice-pnncipel for the Hllo Community School for Adults
She is presently a board member for Proied Keiki, Inc , and a member of the Business-Education
Partnership She has served as president for Alpha Delta Kappa (women's education sorority)
and is a very active member of the Hilo HongwanJi Mission Mrs Maedo states that she is not
affiliated with any poldical party, and will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2002
Courtcll DNtrlct 4 -Louis Kaorwi Is a lifelong resident of Hawau He is a retred corrections officer
and a member and past commander of the Disabled Amencen Veterans Chapter 6 He is also a
member of the Big Island Veterans Association and currently serves on the Mayor's Veterans
Advisory Committee Mr Kaoiwi states that he is not affiliated with any political party, and well
serve a term to expire on December 31, 2003
Council District S - Scott J SaNen is an employee of Hawau Island Kukui Products and has lived
in Hawau for over 12 years He has an Assoaate of Arts degree in Sociology and Child
Development from Oxnard Jr College He has served as a Crew Supervisor/Fire Fighter,
Nursery Supervisor, Squad Boss/Fve Fighter, Maintenance/Landscepe Supervisor and
Sawyer/Fire Fighter for venous organizatrons Mr Salfen states that he Is not affiliated with any
political party, and will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2002

CourrcN DWict 8 -Thomas Reece is a 20-year resident of Hawau He is employed by the
On-Line Markebng Group, and has been for the pest 14 years Mr Reece received a B S degree
from Mfsaoun State Unrversily Ha is a past presxent and curtent board member of the Greater
Ocean View Chamber of Commerce, current chairman of the Ocean View Community
Development Corporetion and also past president end current board member of the Kailua-Kona
Lions Club He will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2003
Cound District 7 -Terry Wallace was bom and educated through high school in Hawau He has
lived in Hawau for a total of 33 years He spent his university and professwnal career in the San
Frencieco Bay area He served as an elected Fire Commissioner for the Novato Fire Distnct and
was appointed to the Governors Task Force for revision and update of the Caldomia State Fire
Code Since rebnng and moving back to Hawau, he was appointed to the Fire Board of Appeals
by Mayor Akana and has served as Fire Chief of the Kona Village Volunteer Fire Unit Mr
Wallace states that he is not affiliated with any polibcel party, and will serve a term to expire on
December 31, 2005,
Corurel Dislrlct 8 - Alexander R Brro is a seven year resident of Hawau Mr Biro has served as
a Fve FighterlRescue for the town of Faufreld, Connecticut for 27 years He is a member of the
Kona Palisades Board of Directors and serves on the advisory board for the Hawau Island Food
Bank He is also the Director for the St Michaels Food Pantry and serves as a pansh council
member Mr Biro is a member of the Republican Party, and will serve a term to expire on
December 31, 2004
l:oundl DYtrk:t 9 - Stephen P Bowles is a lifelong resident of Hawau He is employed by Island
Resources, Ltd , as a ground water geologist and is Chairman-CEO of Waimea Water Services
He presently serves on the Waimea Water Roundtable and the Waimea Community Planning
Committee Mr Bowles has also been employed by two federal agencies, the U S G S and the
US-SCS, as a geologist and field technician, and the Honolulu Board of Water as a hydrologist
and geologist Mr Bowles states that he is not affiliated with any political party, and will serve a
term to expire on December 31, 2004

along with the completed application for Mr Thomas Reece of Courrdl District 6
