Councilman Aaron Chung iroe To Fax 9618912 Pega 5 of 6, FrrEey, Ilerch 16, 2001 / 2la January 25, 2001 [Comm # 103j Councilman James Y Anrkalu, Chair Hawatt County Council 25 Aupum Street I-Llo, Hawaii 96720 Dear Councilman Aiakaki We would like to request that you place the followmg correspondence on the agenda for the March 2l, 2001 council mcetiiig m Kona C+n January l9, 2001, the Police Commission uriammously voted m favor of holdmg public heanngs concerrimg the possible rehttmg of Wood ~ Tart as their investigators before the bid process comas up m June of this year As you may recall, we have been pursumg this issue smce 1998 with the Commission, because we strongly fcel that Wood & Tart's mvesdgahons are mcomplete and give improper infoimahon to the Police Commission Because we have received the support of the Commrsston, based on them loolung mto our spceific allegations, we also feel it is appropnate at flits lime, to request that the County Council consider looking at the fees that Wood & Tait charged for two mveshgahons that were done because of complaints that I brought to the Commission m 1997 (HPC 97-29 and HPC 97-30) Their foes totaled almost $6,000 that was shouldered by the taxpayers and we feel that the County is due a refund by this finn In August of 1998, I requested that the Finance Committce investigate whether the taxpayers of the County of Hawau were due a refund from the investigative fine of Wood Tatt Again, we made this request because we felt them investigations were iiiwmplete and gave improper information to the Police Cornmtssron winch they based then dcetsions on The chart of that wmmtttce, Aaron Chung, took it upon himself to investigate our complaint Since the "mternews" that Councilman Chung conducted were not documented, but rather conducted by phone, we have no way of accessing any information on this matter Mr Chung's mveshgahon was not documented and therefore there is riothuig m the record that we can request to either venfy or quash our suspicions We have been informed by the former Corporation Council to the Police Commission, that Mr Chung's investigation may not have been appropnate With that, we would request that the County Council pursue a proper mveshgahon of Wood & Tait as it pertavis to tax dollars paid out, not only m my two investigations, and leave the
