RE: Waimea Humane Society
Hearing Scheduled for Wed, Feb. 21, 2001
Dear Mayor Kim:
I am alarmed and wncetned about reports of the conditions found by community members
recently at the animal shelter in Waimea, including tack of food and water, slthy cages, and lack
of personnel present during posted business hours.
It is our responsibility to protect and care for these animals. Abuse and neglect are not
acceptable conditions. A Humane Society that does not adhere to humane guidelines is not
serving the animals or the community. I fcel strongly that these problems must be addressed.
As an individual, and as a member of the business community of the Big Island, I am requesting
that you move forward with a review of the policy, procedure and practice of the current Humane
Society in Waimea.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
~
Terri Hams
