Re Letter of Recommendation for Tane Testa
Dear Chairman AIakaki
The Honorable Mayor Harry Kim has recently named Ms Jane Testa as his nominee for
the Duector of Reseazch and Development for the County of Hawaii, State of Hawau I believe
the mayor's nommee is emmently qualified to assume the Director of Reseazch and
Development position for the county.
I have known Ms Testa for more than twenty yeazs. I first met her in Honolulu when
she was associated with the Hawaii Vocational and Religious Association More recently, she
has assisted the organizations I am associated within their corporate planning efforts. These
organizations include the Kona Adult Day Caze Center, the West Hawazi Workforce 2000, Inc.
and the Hawau Community Federal Credit Union
During these associations with her, Ms Testa demonstrated a good grasp of "Core
Ability" skills They mclude leaznmg effectively, communicatmg cleazly, working
cooperatively, workmg productively, thinking critically and creatively, acting responsibly, and
valuing oneself positively.
She had to work with a diverse group of organizations and took the time to leazn what
each of these orgaruzarions was all about She also had the ability to put the leadership of
these organizations at ease so that they would share what they saw as concerns, threats and
opportunities for then organizations She then used her facilitator skills to lead each group to
form some realisric and meaningful goals for their organizations These skills aze transferable
and can be used quite effectively to lead the County's Reseazch and Development Depaztment
