SUBJECT. Fiscal Year 2001-02 Funding Recommendations for Nonprofit Organizations
For yow consideration, attached please find FY2001-02 proposed appropnattons for
qualified nonprofit orgamzations that have applied for county funds Also, as requested
by Council Member Leningrad Elanonoff, please find a spreadsheet and accompanying
pie chart reflecting a breakdown of requested grant monies for each applicant agency
As in past years, yow working subcommittee has endeavored to evaluate each application
thoroughly and to respect the pnnciple of a continuum of funding for proven and
necessary social services, while fairly constdenng new appltcations on their meet This
year's funding recommendations reflect ow keen concern that limited funds must be
applied to demonstrated needs, particularly m the areas of drug treatment/intervention.

yow Human Sernces Nonprofit Grants Review Committee has sought to apportion rts
recommendations fairly across the island's distracts and to respect the umque needs of
distinct wmmtinittes
Some pressing problems, such as the "ice" epidemic, high rate of diabetes among island
residents, and emergency services for injwed and destitute citizens and family members,
regwre flexible response with limited resowces. These funding recommendations
attempt to provide that flexible response to a broad spectrum of social needs.
I welcome yow thoughtful consideration of these proposals throughout ow deliberations.
