Dear Chairrr~an Arakaki and Council Members:
would like to take this time to clarify your concerns regard ng the committee
confirmation <hearings of some of Mayor Kim's nominees to various boards and
commissions.
1. Police Commission:
The fact sheet on the Police Commission is incorrect a d will be corrected.
The three items in question are part of HRS, Chapter 2, which has been
repealed.
a. Three-year residency requirement.
b. Numbers reference to political party.
c. Disqualification from service if running for office.
2. Liquor Commission:
The length of terms (one and five years) is stated in C arter Amendment 14,
year 2000.
3. Veterans Advisory Committee:
a. Mr. Sakamoto was nominated by the Club 100 but was never confirmed.
Prior to his confirmation, his name was withdrawn y the Club and
replaced by Mr. Kihara.
b. Mr. Kaoiwi was confirmed by the Council on Septe ber 7, 2000 to serve
a term to expire on December 31, 2005. t~
